Press Release - Water Sage Is Allowable Budget Expense For GOCO's 2017 Open Space Grant Program

Water Sage continues to provide easy access for hard-to-find water rights data

(DENVER) – Ponderosa Advisors, LLC, developers of Water Sage, and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) announced today that Water Sage Colorado is an eligible expense through GOCO’s 2017 Open Space Grant program.

GOCO’s Open Space grants help fund low-impact, passive recreation land conservation projects for public and private use through fee acquisitions or conservation easements. These projects typically include natural areas, community separators, greenways, stream corridors, scenic view sheds, wildlife habit or other limited-facility type buffer projects often sought by Colorado cities and towns. GOCO’s independent board awards competitive grants to local governments and land trusts, and makes investments through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Created by voters in 1992, GOCO has committed more than $917 million in lottery proceeds to more than 4,900 projects in all 64 counties without any tax dollar support.

“GOCO supports our grantees’ use of systems designed to enhance the due diligence review process associated with real estate transactions,” said Chris Castilian, GOCO’s executive director. “Water Sage provides an efficient mechanism for searching, identifying, and confirming water rights.” GOCO also noted that Water Sage is not the only tool available for water rights research and if a grantee elects to use something different, those related expenses could also be eligible for GOCO funding.

“Understanding water rights can be an overwhelming task,” added Spencer Williams, Business Development Manager at Ponderosa Advisors. “With Water Sage in hand, applicants can navigate Colorado’s challenging water rights system with confidence and ease and know it won’t break their budget.”

In today’s announcement, GOCO confirmed that subscription costs for Water Sage access will be an approved expense category for 2017 Open Space Grant applications. Funding of all or a portion of Water Sage subscription costs will be subject to GOCO’s review and approval based on the Water Sage subscription requested and the water rights due diligence needs of the project. Water Sage access is available in hourly, 1 month, 3 month and annual subscriptions, which allows for flexibility for conservation organizations to use the platform for project specific work. Entities with an existing Water Sage subscription can use the platform as a part of their Open Space Grant application, and can have a portion of their subscription cost refunded by GOCO.

Open Space grants are offered annually and the next application is due online by August 3, 2017. GOCO recommends that grant applicants submit draft applications for review by July 20, 2017.
