We are a team comprised of ranchers, farmers, die hard outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, energy and tech industry veterans, and seasoned software engineers, spread between our offices in Colorado and Montana.
Kelly Bennett – Co-Founder & President
Kelly co-founded Ponderosa Advisors in 2012 after building data and analytical products in the energy commodity space. Kelly operates with a strong commitment to community, conservation, and property rights. He sits on the Board of Directors for Colorado Uplift, one of Denver’s oldest organizations focused on supporting at-risk youth, and the Western Landowners Alliance, a non-profit advocating private conservation and land stewardship. When not playing with water data, Kelly is mostly likely found on a horse’s back or a pair of skis.
Porter Bennett - Co-Founder & CEO
Porter Bennett is President and CEO of Denver-based Ponderosa Advisors LLC, an advisory and information firm for the energy and water sectors through its subsidiaries Ponderosa Energy and Water Sage. He has spent more than 30 years in the energy industry analyzing the natural gas and crude oil markets. He founded Bentek Energy in 1985, served as CEO and led the company’s development until 2011 when he sold it to Platts, a division of McGraw Hill Financial. He holds an MS degree in mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines, an MA degree in international affairs from Columbia University, and a BA degree in history from Lewis & Clark College. When not running Ponderosa Advisors, Porter can be found on his ranch in Montana.
Andrew Brachman - GIS Analyst
Andrew is a GIS Analyst with over 5 years of experience in environmental conservation and is now responsible for locating, creating and analyzing our geospatial information for Water Sage. In his free time Andrew enjoys woodworking and the outdoors.
Parker Burgess – Software Developer
Parker has a computer science degree and has been developing code for the past 8 years. What he enjoys most about his position at Ponderosa Advisors is creating new and innovative projects with the latest technology. The obligatory hobby list is woodworking, photography, and gaming but trying new hobbies is always fun … that way when you kill a garden you can try composting.
Chris Carparelli - Water Rights Specialist
Chris is based in Helena and works closely with Nancy to provide water rights consulting services in Montana. Through previous roles with the Montana DNRC and the Beaverhead Conservation District, Chris has developed many great relationships with producers, landowners, conservationists and agency folks throughout the state. He holds an M.S. in Natural Resources Science from the University of Nebraska and a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from Creighton University. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the mountains with his fiancé and his dog, fishing and snowboarding in out-of-the-way places, rooting for Denver and Nebraska sports teams, and spending time on his family’s farm in North Dakota.
Aaron Edwards - Senior Software Developer
Aaron is Senior Software Developer for Ponderosa’s Water Sage project. He has over 15 years experience developing enterprise-level solutions for Natural Resources Management, Insurance, mapping and other applications. Mr. Edwards specializes in developing Windows and web-based programs on a variety of platforms and technologies. When he is not writing software, Aaron enjoys cooking French food, playing music and living in a Colorado mountain town.
Samantha Fox - Database Developer
Sam is a business intelligence developer with a background in energy markets. She develops the databases for Water Sage, combining primary analysis of each state’s water right data with research into their legal and regulatory administration. When not wrangling water data, she can be found doing yoga, enjoying music, or trying to sneak really healthy food into family dinners.
Michael Gates - Water Sage Technical Architect
Mike has worked in the world of software development and data analysis for the last eighteen years. When he’s not sitting in front of a computer coding, he spends his spare time hiking and climbing in the mountains outside of Boulder.
Angie Molter - VP, Sales
Angie comes to Water Sage with 15 years of SaaS software sales experience leading both direct sales and technical sales teams. Prior to joining Water Sage, Angie served as the Global Vice President of Business Development and Product Strategy for EcoSys, an Intergraph company, where she was responsible for all global pre-sales, sales pipeline management, and sales enablement. As a second generation Colorado native, Angie frequently leaves the state to travel, having been to more than 25 countries throughout the world.
Kyle Morrison - Sales Development Representative
Kyle comes to Water Sage with 3 years of client success and account management experience in tech start ups. An inspirer and activator, he is excited to serve current and prospective clients in their interactions with the Water Sage product. When not at Water Sage, Kyle enjoys reading, snowboarding, cooking/exercising with his wife Amy and being way too into baseball.
Patience Peterson - Director of Marketing
As Director of Marketing, Patience Peterson leads the execution of marketing and communications strategies and outreach programs to build Water Sage’s presence and reputation in target markets. Patience directs and oversees the implementation of the Water Sage’s brand, defining an integrated mix of marketing tactics and ensuring key messages are consistently presented. Prior to Water Sage, Patience was the Director of Marketing and Communications for Crestone Capital, a global multi-family office, delivering wealth management services to entrepreneurs, CEOs, founders and their families. Patience earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Denver. She is an ultra-runner, avid backcountry skier and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors of Colorado.
Lindsey Sherry – Office Manager
Lindsey joined Ponderosa Advisors in February of 2013. With a background in elementary education, she helps keep the office organized and enjoys supporting the team on a variety of projects. Outside of the office, Lindsey loves exploring the beauty of Colorado and cheering for the Michigan State Spartans with her husband and young daughter.
Jamie Stone – Software Developer
Jamie has over five years of software development experience, with a focus on data collection and management. He loves being able to aggregate a multitude of data sources into a useable, transparent data warehouse. When not in the office, he can be found enjoying the Colorado snow or at home building his own applications.
Spencer Williams – Business Development
Spencer oversees market development and sales for Water Sage and related custom data and technology offerings. Prior to working with Water Sage, Spencer practiced water rights law in Colorado. He continues to provide consulting services as a transaction, markets, and investment advisor in the water rights space under Water Sage’s parent company, Ponderosa Advisors. Outside of work, Spencer spends most of his time with his wife and three children, when possible, on or near a river.
Dylan Winbourn - Regional Sales Director
As Regional Sales Director, Dylan plays an integral role at Water Sage, managing all customer-facing aspects of Water Sage including sales and strategic account acquisition. Dylan has an extensive technical background in enterprise and SaaS software, previously working with major engineering and construction organizations, as well as transportation departments and utilities. Prior to joining Water Sage, Dylan was a Senior Sales Engineer for EcoSys, an Intergraph company, responsible for breaking into new sectors and markets. Dylan earned degrees in environmental science and geography from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is an avid snowboarder and hiker, and enjoys traveling the world.
Nancy Zalutsky - Water Rights Specialist and Certified Paralegal
Nancy has over 20 years’ experience in Montana water rights.She feels lucky to work with great clients to help them understand, use and protect their water rights and visit beautiful properties as part of her job. Nancy spends time outdoors and is an avid downhill skier, hiker and kayaker.
Mark Ziman - Water Resource Analyst
As a Water Resource Analyst at Water Sage, Mark plays an integral role on the product development team. He is responsible for proactively addressing the needs of leading water industry professionals, innovating software-driven solutions, and having an extensive knowledge of the underlying data. Mark works closely with the development and sales team to create new data and feature enhancements in the platform. Prior to Water Sage, Mark was a Research Analyst at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. Prior to this position, he was an Associate Biologist at Rincon Consultants. Mark received his Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University and Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California Santa Barbara. He is also holds certifications in Geographic Information Systems and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Outside of work, Mark enjoys everything Colorado has to offer - hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, mountaineering, and local breweries.
